I have two great book selections for this month; our last Garden Book Raffle of our club year. The first is The Natural Shade Garden by Ken Druse.
Since we all have to cope with some shade in our gardens, I thought this selection would be appreciated. I’ve had this book for a long time and I still love it. Ken Druse is an east coast gardener and has been one of the foremost garden writers and photographers in the country. His extensive plant lists, design and garden layout ideas are absolutely appropriate for our gardens as well, whether we have dry or wet shade to contend with. There are over 500 outstanding photos and wonderful informative discussions throughout about how to make good plant choices for your space and conditions. The inspirations are endless.
My second selection for the raffle is a new book called Garden Lust: A Botanical Tour of the World’s Best New Gardens by Christopher Woods, the former director and chief designer of Philadelphia’s Chanticleer Gardens. This book is the culmination of his worldwide quest to search out the most inspiring gardens in the world. Since travel has been impossible these past months, I thought a trip through 50 of the best gardens on 6 continents would be appreciated. He writes with humor and great insight about the most inspiring gardens and gardeners that he came across. This could instill wanderlust in any of us. It is a beautiful read and a very special book.
